Tactile Art Workshop for Kids & Teens (ages 7 and up) with Muck Artist in Residence Erin Schalk
Saturday, November 20th, 9-11am
Free; Registration required
This workshop will engage in tactile forms of drawing, offering participants an entirely new approach to visual art. A traditional, foundational visual arts exercise is to create a “blind contour drawing,” which asks students to continually watch the object they are drawing without setting their eyes on their drawing paper. This workshop will challenge students to engage with blind contour drawing on a new level, experiencing a still life entirely through their senses of touch and smell. Participants will also learn how to create a raised-line drawing using tactile materials.
*Open, whether sighted or visually impaired. All participating students will learn about different ways an artist with blindness or low vision approaches artworks. Students will be challenged to think about art from both tactile and auditory realms, rather than a strictly visual perspective.
