The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss

Illustrator by day, surrealist by night, Dr. Seuss created a body of irrepressible work that redefines this American icon as an iconographic American artist. The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss often shows a side of the artist that most readers, familiar with him through his classic children’s books, have never seen. These “Midnight Paintings,” along with significant drawings and sculpture, were often created by Dr. Seuss at night for his own personal enjoyment and were rarely, if ever, exhibited during his lifetime.

Unsavory

Throughout the history of art, food has been depicted via imagery of culinary delights, as well as social gatherings, sumptuous feasts, and mouthwatering still life representations. Nonetheless, these charming and innocuous displays of materiality often fail to address the troubling narratives regarding the manner in which food has been cultivated, exchanged, processed, distributed, and consumed. In contrast, Unsavory will unveil the many destructive aspects - both to humans and the environment - brought about by the production/ingestion of food and beverage.

The Persistence of Memory: Salvador Dali and His Influence

"Works by Dali are interspersed with works inspired by the master in a variety of media including film, dance, and drawing. --- You know the name, you’ve seen the melting clocks and you remember the mustache. Salvador Dali (1904-1989) resides somewhere in the upper echelon of famous artists- the ones that need only one name. His dreamy, surreal paintings, sculptures, literary works and films pushed the boundaries of reality and explored the subconscious mind, echoing his outlandish public persona. Combining video, iPhone images on metal, and an object d’arte, this narrative exhibit creates a place to consider love and loss: of all the different chairs we each occupy over the years, few are as misunderstood as the grateful chair.
