Through a series of seminars, our 2023 Artist In Residence, Jac Alva, will be leading the conversation about the role of food in art. Through this medium, Jac Alva and CSUF Associate Professor Philippe Zacaïr will focus on the history of sugar and its global impact. Sugar is a staple ingredient in almost everything we consume today. And yet, few are aware of its history, specifically the troubling manner in which sugar has been cultivated, exchanged, and processed for our taste and pleasure. Overall, this presentation aims at providing context and tools for comprehending sugar's place in the art canon.
