InsideOUT Writers

Presented by InsideOUT writers with the California Arts Council’s Arts-in-Corrections Program

$12.50 Member, $16 Student/Senior, $25 Non-member

We present an evening of readings featuring the written works of formerly incarcerated young adults from InsideOUT Writers’ classes, in collaboration with the California Arts Council’s prison project, and the Muckenthaler Cultural Center. The mission of InsideOUT Writers is to reduce the juvenile recidivism rate by providing a range of services to meet the needs of currently and formerly incarcerated youth and young adults. Using creative writing as a catalyst for personal transformation, these young people are empowered with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully re-integrate into our communities, becoming advocates for their future. Since 2013, InsideOUT Writers has expanded by adding an adult prison component, bringing self-reflection and personal insight through creative writing. With a Arts-in-Corrections grant, the Prison Program is funded at Ironwood State Prison, and InsideOUT Writers volunteers at Chino/CIM, Kern Valley State Prison, California City State Prison, and CSATF. The Muckenthaler echoes this mission and has been working in California prisons since 2012.
