We will meet in Fullerton at the Train Depot at 9:45 AM and leave at 9:54 AM on Metrolink to Union Station. At Union Station we will get a short historic tour from Zoot Velasco before heading to Olvera Street- Los Angeles’ first street. We will have a Mexican lunch at La Luz Del Dia Restaurant on Olvera Street. After lunch passengers can tour any of the 5 free museums that make up La Puebla Historic Monument- the original village that established Los Angeles- including Sepulveda House, The Chinese American Museum and Avila Adobe; they can shop in Olvera Street, or they can return to the train festival in Union Station across the street- the 5th Annual National Train Day, a celebration of trains which will run until 4:00 p.m.
The event will feature live entertainment, interactive exhibits, culinary demonstrations, kids’ activities, model trains, tours of Amtrak, freight and commuter trains, and private railroad cars. Walk through privately owned, luxury railcars. Explore commuter displays, rail passenger services and freight equipment displays showing how “green” locomotives transform the nation’s freight fleet. Take a closer look at miniature masterpieces and marvel at the wonder of the model train displays that will be featured on-site. Interact with Amtrak Security K-9 Units, one of the largest programs in the United States. Explore the future of high speed rail travel. Enjoy live cooking demonstrations by Amtrak celebrity chefs and taste free samples of regional culinary specialties.
We will meet in Union Station at 4 PM to share our day before we return to Fullerton at 4:40 PM on Metrolink arriving home at 5:13 PM.
