Dick Dale, the “King of the Surf Guitar”, will celebrate his 50th anniversary in music with the Fullerton College Orchestra at the Plummer Auditorium. This fundraiser benefits The Muckenthaler Cultural Center Arts Education programs and the Fullerton College Foundation’s scholarship programs. American Nostalgia

More than thirty years after his death, iconic American artist Norman Rockwell’s art is still enormously popular. This invitational group exhibition examines the enduring themes represented in the art of Norman Rockwell–patriotism, family and the American ideal–through the works of 40 contemporary artists and illustrators. The exhibit will be on display from July 7 through September 25 with a $5 suggested donation at the door.

The Muckenthaler Jazz Festival

Live jazz returns for a sixth season to our beautiful outdoor amphitheater with six performances. Past performances have included a Grammy Award winner and other luminaries. Legendary Lighthouse All-Stars musician and impresario Howard Rumsey said of The Muckenthaler Center’s Jazz Festival, “The sound is perfect, the lights are perfect. Free Winter Holiday Festival

Tis the season for great community events! We will be hosting our annual Holiday Festival and Open House, sponsored by Target and the National Charity League, on Sunday, Dec. 19, from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Muckenthaler Villa. The free holiday event, decorated by Collete’s Catering, will feature various activities including home and gallery tours by costumed guides, song and dance performances by the community, and an arts and craft fair. The family-friendly event will provide free art workshops for kids, a children’s play area and a special appearance by Santa Claus.

Monica Lee Copeland and Edward Obuszewski along with The Gaslight Chorus will bring an evening filled with poetry and music to the Muck. A veteran writer and performer, Copeland is currently the host and founding director of Indelible Ink: a Vanguard Performance Art Series, which features literary artists, singer/songwriters and variety acts. Obuszewski, whose work is featured in various literary publications, is also featured in Moon Tide Press’ Pop Art: An Anthology of Southern California Poetry. The Gaslight Chorus, a male a capella singing group based in Brea and a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, will provide music for the evening.

The best of North Orange County’s high school and college-age singers compete in our own version of “American Idol” showcasing everything from country to pop to opera. The competition, judged by industry professionals such as Broadway vets, agents and producers, comes with a $500 cash prize and the winner gets their own concert at the Muck in 2011.
