From Louisiana Bayou rhythms to Spanish gypsy anthems, Bluegrass twang to Afro-Cuban Salsa, Muck Roots celebrates cultural music with a twist. Original, unique, and bursting with fresh style, this uplifting series features eight concerts.
1. Jessica Fichot

Drawing from her multi-ethnic French, Chinese, and American upbringing, Jessica Fichot’s music fuses styles and languages, taking the listener on a twisting journey of multilingual vocals, backed by an amazing quartet of clarinet, sax, flute, upright bass, guitar, and drums.

2. Ukulele Festival

An awesome convergence of great ukulele and musical talent on one stage for one night only! Opening the Ukulele festival is La Habra High School’s very own ukulele band. 3. National Dance Day/Susie Hansen’s Salsa Fiesta

Violinist Susie Hansen and her band perform their original style of Afro-Cuban Salsa and Latin Jazz. Popular with jazz aficionados, dancers, and foot-tapping listeners, the band knows how to get the audience moving. As Susie likes to say, “We aim for the feet!” The Muckenthaler’s executive director, Zoot Velasco, will teach a salsa dance lesson before the concert.

4. Hillbillies Reunion

5. Incendio

Balancing rock-style enthusiasm and energy with a tremendous technical and improvisational sophistication, Incendio explores jazz, Celtic, middle-eastern, and electronica. 7. Grupo Falso Baiano

Grupo Falso Baiano offers a window into the history and diverse culture of Brazil. The group has worked with the Pasadena Pops, Around the World Music Program, Young Audiences of Northern CA, and Youth in Arts, to bring choro (a Brazilian music style, very popular in the 1920s and 1930s) and Brazilian music to students throughout California. This is Zoot’s pick for best new artistic find for 2012 and he is happy to share them with you!

8. Lisa Haley—Zydeco

Lisa Haley, a Grammy-nominated fiddler, dancer, vocalist, songwriter, serves up heart-moving Louisiana Bayou rhythms, traditional stylings, and original songs. She has long been considered the Queen of California’s Zydeco scene. Click here to purchases tickets.
