In 1929, Walter and Adella Muckenthaler toured Europe, visiting cities all over the continent. On their travels, they looked for fine furniture for their home. A postcard from Naples, sent in 1929 to Walter's younger brother Lawrence and his wife, Nellie, in Santa Ana read, "Dear Folks: Here at Nice, the garden spot of Europe much like good old Calif. We are on our way to Barcelona this a.m. Love to all. Walt & Dell." In a second postcard, Walter writes to Lawrence and Nellie from Manhattan. "This is just a wonderful place," he wrote. "The Great White Way is a thrilling scene at midnight. Tomorrow will go shopping."
