The Muckenthaler family visited New York, New York, and stopped in to take in the view from the observation deck on the 86th floor on the recently built Empire State Building. Later in 1936, the family sailed again for the Hawaiian Islands. In the 1930's, there were only two hotels in Waikiki--The Royal Hawaiian and The Moana. The Walter and Adella Muckenthaler stayed at the Moana, which is the oldest hotel in the area. The back of the a postcard sent out to family overseas read, "Hello Folks, had a most wonderful trip over. Wasn't a sick day. Landing was the most beautiful. It's a long story, so will tell you when we get back. I'm just thrilled about everything. Dell, Walt & Harold."
