Celebrate Valentine’s Day with stories by the South Coast Storytellers’ Guild. These performers are known throughout Orange County for fun, captivating stories from a wide range of cultures. Some share true stories from their own hearts, some explore the farthest reaches of the imagination, and some are spellbinding musicians. Others perform as tandem tellers who express their real-life love from within a tale.

 

ON THE WING, ON THE HOOF: SILENT FILMS WITH LIVE MUSIC

Join us for an evening of silent films accompanied by our host, pianist Michael Mortilla. Program includes Part I: ON THE WING; The Voice of the Nightingale (a beautifully handpainted stop action and live action film), Call of the Cuckoo (an early Laurel & Hardy short),  followed by Part II: ON THE HOOF; The Goat (hysterical Buster Keaton comedy short) and Mighty Like a Moose (considered the finest of Charley Chase’s silent comedies).

 

NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE

At this conference for nonprofit community leaders, we discuss topics such as grant writing, fundraising and collaboration and the role they play in making your organization a stronger force in the community. It will include speakers from Orange County Community Foundation, local nonprofit leaders and educators. Last year, one speaker gave away $100 dollars to each organization! This year’s conference will focus on the art of collaboration and the ‘ins and outs’ of collaboration for nonprofits; from vision casting to organization as well as how to reach your outcomes and goals.

Don Lucas’ Stolen Moments, a dazzlingly original display of Rat Pack hits, Big Band bits, and Ricky Ricardo skits, is an acerbic look at the 30-year career of entertainer Don Lucas. The show sweeps by as we follow him through highlights: on tour with Barbara Streisand, Carol Channing, Frankie Valli, The Pied Pipers, on TV, on high heels, and with conga drum in tow as the only Desi Arnaz impersonator in Los Angeles, authorized by daughter Lucie.

 

JOUYSSANCE EARLY MUSIC ENSEMBLE

Vincenzo, the Duke of Mantua (1562–1612), presided over one of the most artistically opulent courts in all of Europe. Composers like Giaches de Wert, Claudio Monteverdi, and Salamone Rossi worked there, producing some of the most forward looking music of the time. Jouyssance surveys the music of the Mantuan court, presenting sacred and secular music by these late Renaissance masters and also offer a few surprises.
