NEW! Puppet Workshop: Shadow Theater
Express your creativity with Shadow Puppetry. This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of theater through the art of shadow puppets. Students will work with story telling essentials to design and build their own shadow puppets, develop movement skills and perform their own original shadow theater performance. Ages 13 and up.

NEW! Combat Paper Project: Uniforms into Handmade Paper
Local veterans and their families are invited to join this inter-generational workshop series in traditional hand paper-making. The uniforms that were once worn in service are transformed into handmade paper, prints and artwork. In this way, there is a shared understanding, dialogue and commemoration for those who have returned with the communities in which they live. The hands-on workshop will teach the entire process of how to transform your own clothing into paper art. The workshop will culminate in the Combat Paper exhibit at the Muckenthaler on June 21. Workshop participants may get their artwork into the exhibit!

NEW! Bookmaking
This Winter the Muckenthaler Cultural Center introduces a unique and creative new Book-Arts Program for adults and high school students. From intricate diaries to wacky journals, students will learn the detailed art of handcrafting books. Taught by Betsy Holster, the class will be offered for two Winter Sessions and two Spring sessions, each session lasting for six weeks with one meeting per week on Tuesday night from 6:30PM – 8:30PM. The program will also host a special workshop to coincide with the Spring gallery opening of the Muckenthaler’s Combat Paper exhibit, honoring war veterans through the transformation of their uniforms into paper. This special workshop will be held June 3-6, followed by the Combat Paper exhibit which opens on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 6:30PM with a special gallery reception.

Native American Ceramics
Learn traditional techniques of Native American Ceramics handed down from generations of clay artists: the art of hand-building and decorating in both modern and traditional techniques using earthenware clay bodies. Mr. Harrison will also lecture on current events of the Native American Art, which give information on exhibits and craft shows throughout southern California and New Mexico.

Tai Chi Chuan
This course introduces adults to a Chinese health exercise which is neither vigorous nor strenuous. It is suitable for older adults who want to exercise to gain or maintain good health. Beginning Digital Photography
