Don Normark: A Retrospective

April 12 – June 10

Celebrated photographer Don Normark will be exhibited at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center beginning Thursday, April 12.

Normark is most widely known for his documentation of Chavez Ravine, what is now the location of Dodger Stadium. In 1949, he spent a year capturing the last images of the close-knit Mexican-American community just before its 300 families were evicted by the city of Los Angeles. Recently, these images were featured in the PBS Independent Lens documentary CHAVEZ RAVINE: A Los Angeles Story.

The Muckenthaler exhibition will also include selections from his work with Sunset magazine in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as his more recent documentation of the struggle to preserve the South Central Farm in Los Angeles. Refreshments will be provided by Colette’s Catering and Bootlegger’s Brewery.

Supported by grants from The James Irvine Foundation and The National Endowment for the Arts
